The steps for the assignment are given below. Note that this is simply a repeat of everything that we have already discussed in class.
1. When it is your specific week, find a news article – in print or online - about an event that happened (not sports) from either the New York Times or Wall Street Journal from that week (Sunday-Thursday). Using an article from a different newspaper will result in a redo of the assignment and 10 points off.
2. Print it out or cut it out of the newspaper and highlight/ underline the important points as you read it.
3. Create your own template that matches the one I gave out OR download the Microsoft Word template from the website or download the attachment to this email address. This will allow you to type information directly into the boxes that I made. Alternatively, you can create your own boxes and insert the information on your own. This assignment must be typed. Handwritten assignments will not be accepted.
4. Complete the box about the basic information of the article (name of article, author, newspaper source, date of article, and region).
5. Write a summary about the article. For assistance with writing a summary, you can use the Collins handout on tips for writing a 10% summary. We will practice this in class. After January, your summary must follow the Collins format and correctly include S“T”Art.
6. Choose 4 new vocabulary words from the article and define them.
7. Attached the copy of the highlighted or underlined article to the completed current events template.
8. Prepare for a short oral presentation to the class on Friday. You should be able to explain to the class what you learned.
If the assignment is not completed on time, you will have one week to complete it and your grade will be lowered by 10 points. If you do not make up the assignment in one week, the highest grade you can earn is a 65.
